Entertainment Communications Group David Geithner was named vice president, group general manager in March 2007, overseeing all business operations for PEOPLE, People en Español, StyleWatch, In Style, Real Simple, Entertainment Weekly and Essence. Previously, Geithner served as vice president, general manager of the PEOPLE Group. PEOPLE is the world’s most popular magazine with nearly 42 million readers; and People en Español is the best-selling Hispanic magazine in America. Under his leadership, PEOPLE has received several of the industry’s most distinguished accolades. In October 2006, PEOPLE was featured on Advertising Age’s “A-List” and Adweek’s inaugural “Brand Blazers” list. PEOPLE ranked #1 on Adweek’s annual “Hot List” 2006 and Capell’s Circulation Report placed PEOPLE #1 on its annual “Best Performers in Circulation” list in January 2006. PEOPLE was named Advertising Age’s 2005 “Magazine of the Year” and also took the #2 spot on Mediaweek’s annual “Hit List” of industry leaders that year. Prior to his current position, Geithner was general manager of PEOPLE, where he oversaw the expansion of PEOPLE.com and the launches of PEOPLE’s StyleWatch, which will publish ten times in 2007, and “The Hollywood Daily,” an industry guide to the biggest award shows, among others. In 2004 Geithner repositioned PEOPLE.com as the premiere destination for breaking celebrity news. Today it is the #1 celebrity news destination for women. In July 2007, the site scored 6.7 million unique visitors and 505 million page views, the highest in the site’s history. He previously held the position of general manager for the PEOPLE Group, before it was reorganized by Time Inc. in spring 2004. He also served as general manager of Teen People and People en Español, after holding the position of business manager at the two monthly titles since January 1999. He had been business manager of Teen People since the beginning of its development phase in August 1997, and had worked on the business plan for the publication prior to its launch in January 1998. Joining Time Inc. in 1992 as a finance associate at TIME magazine, Geithner moved to PEOPLE in 1994 as ad revenue manager. In 1996, he became editorial finance manager, managing edit finance duties for PEOPLE as well as for People.com and sister publication In Style. A graduate of Dartmouth with a B.A. in government, Geithner holds an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. He lives in Larchmont, N.Y. with his wife and three children.
